THE POSSIBILITIES OF BETTING ON POLITICS
People gamble, and people bet for various reasons. Some do it in their spare time for a bit of fun. For some people, especially in the likes of Las Vegas, it becomes a complete lifestyle and a means of making enough money to live! For others, it’s just about about making a quick quid out of a football match or horse race.
Betting is very much a cultural thing, that people participate in to add to the enjoyment of an event. The Grand National is the perfect example, where betting is custom for people to simply enjoy the horse racing. However, nothing is quite as unpredictable or exciting as betting on political outcomes.
Politics is always exciting, as the outcome changes the very legal, cultural and economic structure of the country, and hence changing the lives of every resident. Politics, however, isn’t just a once every five years event. Political elections and significant events happen nearly all the time. Let’s not forget, as well as the general election that has to happen every five years, there are also local council elections, Scotland & Wales devolved assembly elections and European Elections that happen throughout the five year period before the general election is called.
And every time these significant political events occur, a media hype ensues. These are perfect times to do something a bit different and bet on your favourite party or politician winning - or indeed, to bet on your least favourite party or politician not gaining the political milestones they want to achieve.
So it’s not just major sporting events and the odd football match that you have a good opportunity to have fun with friends, or just have the sheer thrill of betting. However, these are obviously the more conventional ones that you might be used to. Betting on politics, however, allows you to have this fun with friends and no doubt would give you more of an excuse to get together with your friends and have fun during times of political and media frenzy.
The outcome is often hard to tell in politics, too. We live in a democracy that allows for everybody in the country, over the age of eighteen, to vote and choose who they wish to represent them in whatever political body that might be. It might be as a mayor (Like Boris Johnson and the Greater London Assembly), as a Member of Parliament, or a Member of European Parliament! The possibilities go on for as long as politics does - and bookies the length and breadth of the country will allow you to bet on nearly anything in politics that will result in a negative or affirmative outcome (unless you’re talking about spread betting here).
Bookies will also allow you to bet on international political events that take stage in the center of media attention. Thousands of bets took place during the American campaign and election period, and of course, thousands of people prospered after their winnings were given to them. If you’re looking for something a little unconventional, then perhaps betting on politics is a good step for you.
